This year’s Galway Arts festival succeeds yet again in giving some insight into the minds of remarkable artists whose personal magic interprets our world. These include international journalists Niall O’Dowd, John Lancaster, several writers including Bret Easton Ellis, and the renowned theatre and opera director Sir Peter Hall. On Saturday afternoon, the playwright and poet Frank McGuinness teased out some paths through the labyrinthine mind of Ireland’s leading painter Brian Bourke.

Ireland’s leading arts event, the Galway Arts Festival, is set to provide an internationally acclaimed line-up of music, dance, theatre, comedy, street events and art from July 12 to 25.

IAN RANKIN, JOYCE Carol Oates, Colum McCarthy, and The New Yorker’s Deborah Treisman, will take part in this year’s Cúirt International Festival of Literature, which returns from Tuesday April 20 to Sunday 25.

THE CÚIRT International Festival of Literature celebrates its 25th birthday this year and to honour this milestone will present a strong contemporary programme of events from April 20 to 25.

The Galway Arts Festival has become such an enormous event (in fact it is now an international event of significance), that it is a bit like the Lisbon Treaty: You can’t see all of it; and while many of us see its value to the community, there are parts of it I don’t quite like.

GLAM ROCK legends the New York Dolls and a major dance show by the brilliant Michael Clark, inspired by the Glam era of David Bowie, Iggy Pop, and Lou Reed, are just two of the many exciting shows, concerts, events, readings, and exhibitions lined up for this year’s Galway Arts Festival, which runs from July 13 to 26.

Galway Culture Night takes place on Friday September 25 with a host of free musical, literary, and arts events taking place throughout the city.
